Abstract

Today’s courts face chaos as fake videos and images crafted with tools like GANs and diffusion models turn up everywhere. It’s so easy now: criminals whip up convincing fakes to steal identities, fool banks, demand ransom, spread false stories, or leak intimate images without consent. Deepfakes can slip through a scene, showing moments that never happened, while doctored photos freeze a lie and push the same ugly agenda. People end up anxious, reputations shattered, bank accounts wiped out. Companies get hit, public trust drains away, and even elections feel shaky. Different countries draw the line in their own way. South Korea sticks strict rules into its sex crime laws, aiming only at specific abuses. India goes broad, relying on sweeping digital regulations from 2000, then layering on fresh updates in 2023. No border really stops these crimes if you want to fight them, laws must pinpoint the threat. When fake identities race across the web, helping people recover and defend themselves matters just as much as nabbing the crooks. It’s not just about slapping on watermarks. Digital forensics the careful, methodical hunt for evidence packs just as much punch. Altered images slip past most defences, unnoticed. As AI gets more cunning, online theft sharpens up.
