Abstract

Abstract
The problem of gender inequality in the workplace is still very widespread, and women and gender minorities continue to face a disadvantage in terms of recruitment, remuneration, and promotion, despite the legal progress and diversity promises. Sexual harassment as an outright expression of gendered power imbalance contributes to structural inequalities and poor individual health and organisational performance. Through its control of the practices in the personnel, policy-making, and organisational culture, Human Resource Management (HRM) plays a key role in either challenging or supporting these inequalities. The gender inequality and sexual harassment in the organisational setting is discussed in the paper and the HRM interventions that can be used to alleviate them are critically appraised. Based on the systematic literature review concerning the areas of organisational behaviour, feminist theory, HRM and sociology, the study outlines the circumstances in which the HRM response can be successful or unsuccessful. The results reveal that the effectiveness of HRM interventions depends on structural accountability, which can be shown through the commitment of leaders, the psychological safety provided in the reporting systems, and an intersectionally informed point of view. HRM practitioners, organisational leaders and policymakers are provided with evidence-based recommendations.
